In this video, you will learn how to do some hot water heater repairs.

Before you make repairs, you must understand how your electric water heater works. It all starts with the tank. The tank has a sacrificial anode rod inside. This rod helps prevent the walls of the tank from corroding because the rod takes the brunt of the corrosion. There are also two heating elements inside the tank. One is located near the top of the tank and another is near the bottom. This allows for even heating of the water. The thermostat reads the temperature of the tank and applies the correct amount of voltage to heat the water to your desired temperature.

One of the most common issues is that there is actually no power coming from the circuit panel. You would be surprised how many people forget to check to see if their is current going to the tank itself. Another common issue is the emergency cut off that is located above the thermostat. This device can malfunction and turn off both of the heating elements inside the tank. If you are not getting any hot water at all, there is a good chance that this is your issue.
